Local Acro Athletes Celebrate Big Win

Acrobatic Gymnastics — also known as Acro — is a competitive sport in which partnership gymnasts perform acrobatic moves, dance, and tumbling, all set to music. Local athletes Sara Mercer, Sophia Handel, and Cameron Jones dish on their sport along with coach Juli Eicher.

An acrobatic gymnastics team is taking the world by storm! They just returned from the world championships, which were held in China, where they finished 4th in the world out of 28 countries! Sara Mercer, Sophia Handel, Cameron Jones, and head coach, Juli Eicher, joined us to talk about their experience and show off some of their moves!

Annapolis Student Finds Success in Gymnastics, Online Schooling

Sophia Handel, a 12th grader at George Washington University Online High School (GWUOHS), has been passionate about gymnastics since she was nine years old. The Russian-born gymnast and her teammates are ranked No. 1 in the United States, No. 2 in Europe, and No. 4 in the world for acrobatic gymnastics.

Arthur Davis, a two-time World Champion and seven-time National Champion put together a group called Acro Army. My trio was chosen to perform with the group on Americas Got Talent with Little Mix.

Acrobatic gymnasts claim four medals in Poland

The American squad also brought home the bronze medal in the women's group age-group competition with 1st Class Gymnastics' Holland Koller, Sophia Handel and Rachel Zorn, all of Annapolis, Md., with score of 27.100.

Trio Works to Be Tops in World in Acro Gymnastics

The powerhouse trio of Sara Mercer, 12 of Darnestown, Cameron Jones, 16 of Potomac and Sophia Handel, 16 of Crownsville are elite acro gymnasts and they have a goal to make it to the World Championships in China.
